While the benefits of steaming in a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna are the same, the experience is very different.
Traditional saunas provide a more active experience. You might find yourself spending a few minutes in the sauna and then running outside for some cool, refreshing air, before running back in for another go-around inside the sauna. You will pour water over rocks to create steam and enhance humidity inside a traditional sauna. Using a traditional sauna will cause you to sweat with great intensity. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to heat up a traditional sauna. If you enjoy higher temperatures and steam, a traditional sauna may be the best sauna for you.
A traditional sauna can be set up indoors or outdoors, but most are used indoors.
An infrared sauna, however, is a less ritualistic experience. You can stay inside for your intended sauna time and then come out when you are finished. There is no need to step in and out of an infrared sauna. There are no rocks to pour water over. It takes up to 10 minutes to heat up an infrared sauna.
The infrared saunas sold by The Spa and Sauna Co. of Reno are not an outdoor product. While some retailers may sell outdoor infrared saunas, we have decided not to carry those as we believe they do not heat up well in cold air.
You may hear infrared saunas referred to as soft saunas or far-infrared saunas because they produce higher humidity at lower temperatures. Far-Infrared Rays are the invisible portion of the light spectrum emitted by the sun. Far-Infrared Rays carry heat deep into the skin and muscle tissue without high surface temperatures. Far-Infrared Rays heat the body directly which raises the core temperature and produces a deep penetrating, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level. The medical community often recommends infrared saunas, because of their deep heat and detoxifying nature.
There is no right or wrong type of sauna. It comes down to personal preference.
Benefits of any kind of saunas time include:
